Why Do Roof Linings Sag?
The roof lining in most modern cars consists of a molded fiberglass or cardboard backing board, covered with a layer of foam-backed fabric. The foam acts as a cushion and provides a soft touch. However, the extreme heat generated inside a parked car causes this foam to oxidize and crumble into a dry, orange powder.
Once the foam breaks down, the glue holding the fabric to the board fails, and the fabric begins to sag. This is a very common issue in vehicles over 7-10 years old, particularly European models like Volkswagen and Audi, as well as local Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons.
Attempting to glue the sagging fabric back up is impossible because the crumbling foam creates a barrier that prevents the glue from sticking to the board. The only permanent solution is a complete replacement.
Our Professional Repair Process
Our repair process is meticulous. We begin by carefully removing the sun visors, grab handles, interior lights, and pillar trims to safely extract the headliner board from the vehicle without damaging or creasing it.

We then apply a specialized, high-temperature automotive contact adhesive to both the board and the new foam-backed fabric. The fabric is carefully laid and smoothed over the contours of the board, and the edges are trimmed and wrapped. Finally, the restored board is carefully reinstalled into the vehicle.
