A sagging roof lining (headliner) is a common and frustrating problem, particularly in the hot Australian climate. Over time, the heat breaks down the foam backing of the fabric, causing it to detach from the roof board and droop down, obscuring your rear vision and making your interior look messy.

At DG Auto, we provide professional interior roof lining repairs. We don't use quick-fix pins or spray glues that fail after a week. We perform a complete replacement of the fabric.

We carefully remove the headliner board, strip off the old degraded foam, and apply premium, automotive-grade fabric using high-temperature contact adhesive, restoring your interior to factory-fresh condition.

    Vehicles we work on

Whether you drive a daily commuter sedan, a family SUV, a rugged 4WD, a trade ute, a commercial van, or a luxury European performance car, Damien has the expertise to integrate interior roof lining repair seamlessly into your specific make and model.

    Why Do Roof Linings Sag?

The roof lining in most modern cars consists of a molded fiberglass or cardboard backing board, covered with a layer of foam-backed fabric. The foam acts as a cushion and provides a soft touch. However, the extreme heat generated inside a parked car causes this foam to oxidize and crumble into a dry, orange powder.

Once the foam breaks down, the glue holding the fabric to the board fails, and the fabric begins to sag. This is a very common issue in vehicles over 7-10 years old, particularly European models like Volkswagen and Audi, as well as local Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons.

Attempting to glue the sagging fabric back up is impossible because the crumbling foam creates a barrier that prevents the glue from sticking to the board. The only permanent solution is a complete replacement.

    Our Professional Repair Process

Our repair process is meticulous. We begin by carefully removing the sun visors, grab handles, interior lights, and pillar trims to safely extract the headliner board from the vehicle without damaging or creasing it.

Once removed, we use wire brushes and solvents to completely strip away the old, sticky, degraded foam from the board, taking it back to a clean, smooth surface. This preparation step is critical; if the board is not perfectly clean, the new fabric will not adhere properly.

We then apply a specialized, high-temperature automotive contact adhesive to both the board and the new foam-backed fabric. The fabric is carefully laid and smoothed over the contours of the board, and the edges are trimmed and wrapped. Finally, the restored board is carefully reinstalled into the vehicle.

Premium Materials for a Lasting Finish

We stock a wide range of premium automotive headliner fabrics in various colors (greys, blacks, beiges) to closely match your vehicle's original interior. Our fabrics feature a high-quality, dense foam backing that provides excellent acoustic insulation and a luxurious feel.

The adhesive we use is specifically formulated for high-temperature automotive environments. It will not melt or fail when your car is parked in the blazing summer sun, ensuring your new roof lining stays firmly in place for the life of the vehicle.
